We have been focusing on writing meaningful sentences and using vivid verbs and descriptive words in our writing. Our word study words are really helping us learn how to write more meaningful, mature sentences. We have been amazed at how often we have come across our word study words in books we are reading. That is proof that great author's use mature, meaningful words in their writing. We are getting ready to start using these sentence writing skills to start writing meaningful paragraphs, which will quickly lead to meaningful stories. We will start by teaching the kids how to write ENGAGING BEGINNINGS. This is super exciting and important because this is the first thing a reader sees and we want to be able to grab their attention from the beginning. Please continue to look over your child's meaningful sentences that they should be writing each week for word study. We have been keeping track of our word study words by placing them in our writing notebooks and putting them on the word wall. We plan on having a room full of great Writers this year. We have also discussed what a prompt is and have written a response to two of them so far this year. We have been able to tell a difference in the writing because of the more meaningful sentences that we are using in our writing.
